Williams Vs. Waves

Almost ran over JW leaving practice today… well, not really but more on that in a moment. I had the time so I ran down to catch practice only to discover it wasn’t much of one. Only eight players were on the ice along with Hardy, Kompon and later TM. They did some pretty intense puck handling drills then scrimmaged 3 on 3 with on-the-fly subs (including the coaches). Hardy, in particular, was on fire. The guy looked like he could play a few shifts himself in a real game!

Players on the ice:

Parse
Ivanans
Moller
Segal
Purcell
Harrold
Drewiske
Ersberg

So after about an hour, I bailed out to my car and headed toward the exit. I saw JMFJ going to his car and thought nothing of it. But right near the exit, a car was blocking the road a bit so I stopped. Just as I was attempting to negotiate around it, I heard a voice say, “You can make it, plenty of room!” So I swung around only to see JW, on crutches, tucked up against the stopped car (so as not to be crushed by some dude, namely me).  I pulled up along side only to realize it was Stoll inside the car, apparently on his way out himself. Of course, I had to say something… “Hey guys! Incredible streak you’re on, keep it up!” To that Stoll said, “Thanks man.” And with that, I took off.

  • What's the frequency, Kenneth?

Good job Waves. It’s always cool to show the love and not get into their space. Reminds me of the time I saw Rick Monday in the airport (when he was playing) and just smiled, and he just smiled back.

Nice! Yeah, I have little to no interest in talking to them. Just want them to kick ass. Your story reminds me of seeing Daryl Evans in the elevator up on the 300 level at Staples. It was after a game and I was just walking by and happened to make eye contact. I gestured and pointed, “Daryl!” and he smiled and gestured back as the doors closed. Classic. I got the sense he was glad someone recognized him.

I always wonder how involved an injured player is w/ the team while he’s out. Usually you hear stories about them being out/away/disconnected from the team. Glad to see JW is sticking around. I assume he’s in a cast? Dont you get the up-to-the-knee cast w/ an ankle break?

Yeah, I think he had a cast of some kind. His knee was bent so it probably went just up to it like you said. They looked like they are chatting away so that’s cool. I agree with you. It’s nice to see JW involved in some way.

  • Thats some cool stuff. I like reading stories like that

  • Possibly doing upper body work to keep him from turning into a lump.
