Monster of a Problem

With game 2 just a few hours away, Kings fans number one source of information is still in disarray. When visiting LAKingsInsider.com, we now get this screen before being redirected to the “optimized” website…

temp

In case you have no idea what this is, it is a template page from the hosting company, HostMonster.com, that quickly flashes when visiting the main site before being redirected to a new subdomain.

lakingsinsider.com leads us to…
lakingsinsider.lakingsnetwork.com which takes us to a variation of…
lakingsnetwork.com (which is a now an ad page for the host!)

All of these “sites” are being hosted by the same company. But because of problems with traffic and apparent corrupted databases, the webmaster seems to be trying to plug holes in the dam, so-to-speak, by moving the problem from one domain to the next.

This does not bode well when tonight there probably will be even more people attempting to dial in Rich Hammond’s game posts. Hence more crashes are likely in store. Here’s why…

In the web hosting world, there are two basic differences. A shared machine (many websites on one server) and a dedicated machine (one site on one server). As you can imagine, the latter is what most popular websites employ. Why? Because a dedicated machine can handle a ton of traffic with ease.

So then, why on earth would a webmaster, who operates an extremely popular blog, employed by a giant corporation, chose a web hosting company that DOESN’T EVEN OFFER dedicated servers!?!? More so, even if the webmaster had to chose a shared server (there’s no reason to do this) why would he chose a company with reviews like this…???

“When you contract with Hostmonster they say everything is pretty much unlimited BUT they harass you and cut off your services unannounced when they get tight on resources. LET THE BUYER BEWARE! They will not notify of what the problem is and will not give you a copy of the contract that states the problem.”

“Don”t host your web with hostmonster.com, they have very very poor service, no response to your query, deactivating account for multiple times in one months with stupid reasons and advertising hostmonster with my website visitors.”

“Absolutely abysmal! They had what they called “known” FTP problems the day my web designer moved my site to them. Of course their phone lines are busy today (probably every customer they have is trying to call). I’ll be moving my site and demanding a refund. I paid what they asked. They failed to deliver what they promised.”

Enjoy the game live or on TV folks, because you very well might not be getting any updates online!

Sorry I can’t answer any of your questions,I’M TOO FRUSTRATED,but I”m totally with you.

Do you think Rich is satisfied with the changes?

He has been shy about adressing any of it to the fans that have supported his blog since the beginning.

I believe Rich has made it clear that he really wants nothing to do with the technical side of his blog. He leaves it for the Kings web guy(s). I’m pretty sure he just wants to be able to get his reports out there and doesn’t really care too much about how the site looks. The site should be much more than what it is, let alone crashing every other day.

Rich also almost never responds to his readers/bloggers when they ask him something. Destroys any kind of rapport. Seems like he doesn’t appreciate the difference between running a blog and his old job of one-way reporting.
