What do (might) Ivan the Terrible, Peter the Great, and Ilya Kovalchuk (man I’m getting good at spelling his name) all have in common?
In a twist spanning over 500 years, they might all be Kings (or Czars if you’re Russian, just as all three are).
Ilya and his wife Nicole affirmed their marriage in the Church of Dormition in Moscow back in 2008.

The same church that was built in 1475 and the same church Ivan and Peter were crowned.

Which, obviously, leads me to a commenter on LAKI named Grover who dug up this story on PuckDaddy. What Greg Wyshynski (the author) didn’t realize at the time was just how prophetic the photo included in the story would be (or may be I should say).

And what’s so fitting (or not fitting) about this picture is the fact that the crown is hovering just over his head… so close… but not quite there… as if he’s just about to sign a contract (I mean be crowned a King).
And so goes the most interesting summer saga in Kings history (at least that I can remember)…
Will there be a happy ending?
Will the Kings get their King?
Will the fans get a legit chance at a Cup?
Stay tuned.

I’m sold. Can we get a picture of him sitting on a plush purple throne when it’s all said and done?
We’ll have to ask his majesty! Perhaps one of his Dukes (Luc) has his ear and can persuade his fine sir.
nice job, paul…!
the crown is hoovering…”like an angel”…
You got it craig! LOL.
Gruesome, I thought Queens got a tiara
