Leapfrog to end all leapfrogs

By the end of today, the Kings can reasonably leapfrog from 9th to 3rd place.

Tonight’s game against the Rangers is the biggest game of the year so far not only because it can put the Kings in prime position to make the playoffs, but make the statement that they are back from the abyss and a force in the west.

After this incredible run, the Kings are in position to leapfrog not just 1 or 2 teams, but 6 of them. It’s safe to say that opportunities like this don’t come around very often, which makes tonight’s set of games extra special.

Three of the six teams are idle tonight (Ducks, Flames and Stars). Five of the six teams have 68 points. The Coyotes have 69. The Kings have 67.

If the Sharks, Yotes and Preds lose and the Kings win, they will be tied in points with the Yotes but will be in 3rd place because of fewer games played. They will also go from last to 1st place in the Pacific. Truly amazing.

Tonight’s crucial games…

1. Atlanta in Phoenix has major incentive being just 2 points out in the East.
2. Washington is in San Jose and can certainly beat the Sharks.
3. Vancouver is, of course, favored against Nashville.

It’s very possible! Go Kings!
