Like I imagine a lot of you, I too entered a Stanley Cup Playoffs pool at the beginning of this post season. I’m not very up on all the different types of pools out there but I think the one I entered was/is pretty cool and simple. And so far it’s looking like the NHL Odds are leaning in my favor… except for the Kings series.
Our pool works like this: Basically you decide the winners of each series throughout the playoffs, including the number of games it took the team to win. For a tiebreaker, you guess the total number of goals scored in the Finals series. I guessed 34.
Round 1: 8 series
1. Pick the team that wins the series and get 1 point
2. Pick the number of games they did it in and get another point
In the West, I chose:
Nashville over Anaheim in 6 (2 points!)
Detroit over Phoenix in 6 (1 point)
Vancouver over Chicago in 6 (1 point)
Kings over San Jose in 7
In the East, I chose:
Washington over Rangers in 5 (2 points!)
Boston over Montreal in 7 (2 points!)
Philadelphia over Sabers in 6 (1 point)
Pittsburgh over Tampa Bay in 7
I’ll get to Round 2 when Round 1 is over…
How are you doing in your pool?

How am I doing in my pool?
If I was in a pool, I’d be getting wet. That’s all!
Seriously, I would’ve picked Anaheim over Nashville and Montreal over Boston. I thought Anaheim just had too much talent up front and even with Hiller spinning around when he walks, I thought they found a gold mine when they got Emery. Until Boston started really putting the hits on the Habs, I saw the Habs being able to handle them. I think when the physical play and hitting REALLY picked up, Montreal couldn’t handle it.
