If there was ever a better example of how a team’s attitude follows the coach, it was last night. It took Kopitar getting pounded into the boards in a scary moment to wake him and the rest of the team up. No surprise that when they stopped worrying about the system and started worrying about scoring, they played much better and dominated from that point on. Hackett was just stellar.
Terry Murray rarely shows emotion. His emotional mantra is all about keeping calm. Look at how Brown and Kopitar give their post game interviews. Kopi was a deer in headlights, Brown was beside himself and holding things in. All for the sake of not losing it.
Anyone else think it might be about time that someone loses it in that locker room? ANYONE? BUEHLER?
Can we stop hearing the word ‘Compete’ and start hearing the word ‘COMPLETE’ as in a COMPLETE 60 MINUTES! Terry Murray did say it once in the post game, but he said it in the most passive way, as if there was nothing he could do about making HIS guys play a full 60. It was all on the players. I mean, is this guy a friggin LIFECOACH or a HOCKEY COACH?!?!
Can we start ruling with some AUTHORITY around here instead of CAMRADERIE?!?! This passivity in attitude from the head coach has got to go. The players are EMULATING IT. The team makes a mistake, Terry Murray says the same things in his passive tone of voice. No emotion, no fire. Go listen to the player post game interviews again and tell me they don’t sound EXACTLY like Terry Murray in their explanations! Is it any wonder why there’s no passion or fire on this team?
Player’s fault my ___!

Hey, can we swear and be political and religious over here? Let’s all move over here!
Yes, reading those Kopitar and Brown quotes is interesting. It’s like Lombardi came out of a volcano and named Terry Murray the highest operating human, and the good little Scientologists repeat the mantra.
This may be heresy but my anger is beginning to shift toward DL. I thought the same things last season about Murray, i’m just actually saying them out loud now. At some point it’s on Lombardi.
i’m starting to lose faith that we are ever gonna achieve any of our lofty expectations this season with the current roster and coaching staff…
i agree with you, C…
the team is starting to spiral in all the wrong directions…
I’m beginning to think we’re onto something. It could be players emulating the coach, or it could be the coach (who picks the captains) picked the guys, well, most like himself.
Egg, chicken, Egg…no matter. The result is the same. A healthy dose of blah mixed with some ho-hum and a splash of duh.
It’s just not fun watching such passionless play, which happens to coincide with every interview.
Oh, and one last thing. Passion from a coach or player doesn’t mean a yeller. Passion comes in many forms and a good coach and/or captain knows when to be a range of emotions in different situations and with different players.
I do like how pieces can fit together nicely. Never realized being an LA hockey fan required CSI skills though.
After seeing Hiller’s meltdown and calling out his teammates earlier in the week, I just wanted to see the same thing from one of our guys. I wanted reaction. How awesome would it be to see one guy break rank and talk about the freakin’ elephant in the room? My money’s on Quick right now because that guy’s been saving asses left and right. Have we seen glimpses when Quick comes out of the crease and goes after players for umm, lets call it “invading his space”.
I think you’ve put another nail in the box Cynic. We saw results after Murray called the time out against MTL. We saw it again when Kopi got knocked around. These guys were motivated then. It seems it’s the passion that may be a HUGE missing piece for this team now.
No more zen master.
