Game Headline: 71 + 74 = 2 (points!)
Congratulations to trytodethroneus for moving into 1st place and landing his first Exacta (even if it was a junk empty-netter with 2 seconds left that if didn’t go in, I’d get the Exacta…bitter, party of one!) 
New and Improved!
With 7 games down and 25 to go, it’s a good time to implement a few changes to the game. Hopefully everyone agrees it will be more fun this way, even if a few of you dropped in the standings a bit.
1. Points: First, I’ve added a point system. Points will determine the winner. You get 2 points for a win, an extra point for an Exacta, and an extra point if you also call OT, SO or Regulation (Perfecta).
- Reason: Because it’s more flexible. It allows people to miss predictions without being dropped from the game. Now, if you miss a prediction, you automatically get a loss and a -3, but your points stay intact and you can pick up right where you left off.
- Also, as you will see next, everyone will have something to play for, even if you don’t win the overall game.
2. Playoffs: Between now and Thursday, I’ll be adding more players to the game (up to 30). New players will start with no wins and a -3 for every game missed. However, they will have ample opportunity to make the playoffs. Yes, playoffs. Assuming the Kings make it in, the Top 10 Players from this game will qualify for our own playoffs where we will predict games during the Kings playoff run.
- This way, even if you don’t win the ‘regular season’ you have something to aim for. Get into the Top 10 and make it to the post season where, as we all know, anything can happen.
- Win/Loss, Plus/Minus and the number of Exactas will still act as tiebreakers.

My -10 didn’t change even though I predicted a win against Dallas?

-1 for being off a goal with the Kings score.
+1 for getting the Stars score correct.
You don’t get +/- for a win. You get 2 points though.
It’s simple Dom.
1. For every goal you predict wrong, you get a minus.
2. For every score you predict right, you get a plus.
3. You also get a plus one if you predict the total number of goals correct.
@wavesinair: I’m confused again. When I hit my exacta, I predicted 4 goals correct but recieved the maximum +3 points. Maximum on the + side is 3, but on the – side I can get any number to bring my score down farther than -3?

Correct.
There’s really no easy way to get around the limited plus possibilities. You can only get a +3 maximum. But you can get a HUGE minus if you’re not careful. There’s no cap on the minus.

@Dominick: So there’s no point in gambling to bring your +/- up because once your a minus there’s no way to bring it up as fast as you can bring it down, Correct?

Another thing too, I think you’re getting goals and scores confused.
For every GOAL you predict wrong, you get a minus. But for every SCORE you predict right, you get a plus (not goals!).
If you say the Kings will score 4 goals and they do, it’s +1 and NOT a +4. You’re simply getting a + for guessing the SCORE correct.
But you will get penalized for every GOAL you are off. If the Kings score 6 goals and you predicted 1, that’s a -5 …even if you picked the winner of the game.
It’s not perfect, but it’s easy and fair and it makes you have to be careful in your prediction.

So, to your last point, that’s correct. There’s no incentive to make wild guesses. It’s like a credit card. It’s far easier to get into debt then out of debt!
@wavesinair: Gotcha. I’ll be carefull. Next prediction is Kings 3-2 on Thurday. Phoenix has been scoring goals last 5 games, and keeping the goals against very low, but it won’t last.

In fact, the ONLY way to go up in the plus/minus is to get an exacta. Otherwise, the best you can do in a game, besides the exacta, is get to Even. I wish there was a way for more simple ‘pluses’ but I don’t see how.

To clarify-
Kings 1, Phoenix 3 in regulation. Kings score in 1st, Coyotes tie it in 2nd and take lead late in 2nd. Empty netter makes it 3. Kings first game home, long layoff too, but well rested for Kings usually means lethargic and Phoenix is going to be super motivated. Man, I hope I am wrong, but that was my gut feeling first thought so I gotta go with it.

I’m glad you’re keeping track! I think me and Meg got switched in Matt’s records. He has me at 3-4 and her at 4-3. Should be the other way around, like above.
