Like almost every other Los Angeles Kings hockey blog, Deep Inside the Kings is a spin-off of LA Kings Insider.com with Rich Hammond.
For many years, news of the LA Kings was hard to come by. That’s why I was ecstatic when I stumbled across the original “insider” blog (Inside the Kings) back in 2006. It seemed a reporter named Rich Hammond was covering the team with regularity for the Daily News, giving us Kings fans more information about the team than we’d ever had before.
Inside the Kings eventually attracted a strong audience, which included many contributors to the comments section of the blog. Those contributors soon became regulars and some, including myself, started their own blog, thus creating what Quisp referred to as the “Kings Hive Mind.”
The tongue-in-cheek name of this blog ‘deep inside’ is obviously a play on words from the original blog…among other things. We’re in LaLa Land after all! Newer blogs, such as LA Kings Outsider, is a takeoff of LA Kings Insider. And so it has evolved…for better or worse.
The hive mind has produced many well known blogs that have contributed to the fantastic explosion of Kings information on the web. But we’re all just swimming in the giant shadow of the whale known as LAKI…
The Kings Hive Mind (aka The Whale and the Sucker Fish)
Ever since Rich Hammond quit his job with the Daily News in 2009, and was hired by the LA Kings as their beat reporter, information about the team has only gotten better and better. And so too have many of the great blogs that have grown stronger as a result. With a little luck and some soon-to-be fantastic writing, Deep Inside the Kings will be one of them.
This blog has been a fun hobby for me: creatively, technologically and of course, hockey-wise. As my contributions dwindle with time as I embark on a new venture, I hope the name carries on and the blog becomes far better than I made it alone. To that end, I’ve asked a couple of well-known commenters on LAKI to contribute here as they desire. variable and Cynic are recognized on LA Kings Insider for their unique writing styles and passionate takes.
Both of them have been a mainstay in the blog community for many years and have participated in numerous events, including the popular Insider Suite Nights.
They each have a lot to offer fans with their strong writing skills and dare I say ‘deep’ knowledge of hockey. I’m very excited that they accepted my offer. So without further ado, here’s a bit about the 2 new stars of the show…
