A Quick Look At The Kings Team Shooting Percentage The Last Seven Seasons

2005-06: .102/10.2%  NHL rank: tied 16th
2006-07: .088/8.8%  NHL rank: tied 27th
2007-08: .096/9.6%  NHL rank: 12th
2008-09: .085/8/5%  NHL rank: 27th
2009-10: .097/9.7%  NHL rank: 9th
2010-11: .088/8.8%  NHL rank: tied 20th

2011-12: .069/6.9%  NHL rank: 30th

As you can read, the team has significantly dropped in their shooting accuracy this year – and that’s just the shots they get on net.   If the team is interested, I can provide them with a very respectable, renowned optometrist, and even an opthamologist.  And I also know a pret-tay, pret-tay good optician, if needed.

Kingstradamus Results: Game 1

Game Headline: “It’s a 3-2 League.”

Congratulations to Quisp, the big winner of the night. I can hardly believe no one else chose a 3-2 score.

Here’s how it shakes down: There are 21 players, including bloggers and commenters from LAKI. There are 3 ways to score. The obvious way is wins and losses. The ‘exacta’ column is how many times you predicted the exact score of the game.

The plus/minus column is where it gets a bit interesting. Here’s how it works:

  • -1 for every wrong score ( Off by 2 for Team A & 1 for Team B, then that’s a -3)
  • +1 for one correct score (if you said Kings 3 or Jackets 2)
  • +1 for correct number of goals (if your total goals adds up to 5)
  • +3 for correct game score (if you got the exacta)

Here are the results: (I will keep a running total for the remaining games in this table.)

Game 1 of 32 Kings 3-2 Win/Loss Plus/Minus Exacta
Quisp Kings 3-2 1-0 +3 1
wavesinair Kings 3-1 1-0 E
Bobby Scribe Kings 3-1 1-0 E
Meg Jarrell Kings 3-1 1-0 E
trytodethroneus Kings 3-1 1-0 E
variable Kings 4-1 1-0 -1
Cynic Kings 4-1 1-0 -1
Jon Gillette Kings 4-1 1-0 -1
40YearKingsFan Kings 4-1 1-0 -1
Kingsfanone Kings 4-1 1-0 -1
Dominick Kings 4-1 1-0 -1
Happy Lappy Kings 3-0 1-0 -1
Nofreight Kings 3-0 1-0 -1
Matt Murray Kings 2-1 1-0 -2
KC23 Kings 2-1 1-0 -2
Forum Gold Kings 5-1 1-0 -3
Andrew Kings 5-1 1-0 -3
McSorleyfan Kings 4-0 1-0 -3
DetroitSons1952 Kings 5-0 1-0 -3
Fake Chris Kontos Jackets 2-1 0-1 -1
CB14 Jackets 3-1 0-1 -3

I’ll sort by wins/losses first, then plus/minus and then the exacta could end up being the tie-breaker. But we’ll see how it goes. Your suggestions are welcome. I’ll send out an email on Friday to the LAKI commenters as a reminder for your next prediction. Hopefully this gets pretty fun. Thanks for playing!

NOTE: If you see any errors, please email me or comment here.

Kingstradamus: Bloggers Predict the End of the Season

Matt Murray from Life in Hockeywood proposed a Kings blogger prediction panel for the rest of the season, inspired by a similar idea in Ottawa. Excellent idea!

Here are our predictions, along with the rest of the bloggers who are participating. We’ll keep track of wins/losses as well as a plus/minus rating, which I’ll explain later. If you want to play along, get on board now by sending me an email or making a comment here before the game starts tonight.

*INSIDER UPDATE: If you enter, I’ll send out an email before each game for the rest of the season, reminding you to send me your prediction  If you miss a game, you’re out. This is just for fun. There’s nothing to win except mad respect and ice cred.

Game 1 of 32

Deep Inside the Kings

wavesinair – Kings 3, Jackets 1

Reason: Rust vs. Must: Kings struggle early, trying to find their legs, while the boys from Ohio play desperate ‘must win’ hockey after being embarrassed last night. In the end, the Kings do just enough to squeak out a win after scoring an empty netter with under a minute to go.

variable – Kings 4, Jackets 1

Reason: The Kings have a great opportunity tonight to get the second half of the season off to a great start with a prime opponent in the lowly Blue Jackets.  Recently battered and bruised Anze Kopitar and Mike Richards should be refueled, refreshed and ready to lead the team with a better overall offensive attack…at least, that’s what I hope and think to be the case.  The Kings should also have ample motivation to avenge their previous home performance against Columbus which resulted in a 1-0 loss, arguably their worst game of the season.  With All-Star goalie Jonathan Quick back from his NHL coming-out party, ready to continue his Vezina/Hart-worthy season, all-signs point to a good win at home tonight for the Kings.

Cynic – Kings 4, Jackets 1

Reason: After SJ whippin’ CBJ 6-0 and 2 dismal showings against CBJ this season, the Kings have more than something to prove tonight.

Life In Hockeywood

Matt Murray – Kings 2, Blue Jackets 1, SO

Reason: All season, the Kings haven’t been scoring. I doubt they will have solved that glaring issue over the past nine days… Quick will continue to shine, however.

The Royal Half

Fake Chris Kontos – Blue Jackets 2, Kings 1, SO

Reason: After watching the Columbus Blue Jackets lose 6-0 to the San Jose Sharks Monday night… I’m fully prepared for them to beat the LA Kings 2-1 in a shootout.

Rink Royalty

Jon Gillette – Kings 4, Blue Jackets 1

Reason: The Kings have had 9 days to reflect on their poor performance and have to be itching to get out there and show everyone that they’re ready to kick some ass down the stretch and grab the Pacific Division.

Jewels From the Crown

Quisp - Kings 3, Blue Jackets 2, SO.

Reason: it’s a 3-2 league.

Surly and Scribe

Bobby Scribe – Kings 3, Blue Jackets 1

Reason: dun dun dun dundun dun dun dun dundun dun dun dun dundun dundundun JACKETS SUCK!

Kings Court

Meg Jarrell – Kings 3, Blue Jackets 1

Reason: The Kings play the day before Groundhog Day, and I’m convinced the boys didn’t see their shadow during the All-Star break.

waves notes:

  • Props to Matt Murray for putting this together! Give him a visit for pucks sake over at Life in Hockeywood.
  • A shout out to Kontos for going out on a limb, being the only one to predict a Jackets victory. Hey, someone had to do it.
  • Leave it to variable “longfellow” to write the longest entry.
  • I thought about predicting 3-2 (it being that kind of a league and all) but I figured Quisp would jump all over it… and sure enough, he did!

REPLAY: LA Kings Practice – 1/30/12

Here’s today’s Kings practice recorded from my live broadcast. I went mobile this time so the quality is less than stellar but hopefully you find some good bits. The video is upside down for a few seconds in the beginning.

There was a bit of a mystery as to who the extra goalie filing in for Jonathan Quick was. Quick wasn’t back in time from the All Star game to make practice so they called in a local. I discovered his name is Salvatore Tecci. He is  originally from Las Vegas and currently playing for the Long Beach Bombers.

From what I was told, he plans to go back east for some coaching at some point, and then attend Worcester State in Massachusetts where I believe he will play for the men’s team, the Lancers. I’m sure it was a dream come true for the young goalie. I don’t believe he is a prospect for any NHL club at this point.
